Fifty-eight years after it gained
independence from Britain, Nigeria has yet to become a nation, according to the
Ibadan Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).
At its 22nd synod held at St.
David’s Anglican Church, Ijokodo, Ibadan, Oyo State, the Bishop of the Ibadan
Anglican Diocese, the Most Revd. Joseph Akinfenwa, noted in a communiqué that
at a crossroads of the country, “we resort to and defend our sectarian
interests, no wonder our national patrimony is so parlous and derelict.
“There is tension everywhere
because of too many divergent opinions to issues as we don’t want the same
thing; what a section wants is inimical to the interest of another section and
nobody is ready to give ground for the other.”
